Juan Esteban Suárez is a Puerto Rico–based writer, director, and producer and a member of the Directors Guild of America (DGA) since 1997. A Boston University graduate in Economics, he began his filmmaking career in 1982 and served as script supervisor on the Oscar-nominated What Happened to Santiago (1989).

Suárez has worked across film, television, music videos, and international advertising, collaborating with directors including Steven Soderbergh and Spike Lee, and cinematographers Mauro Fiore and Dariusz Wolski. He wrote and directed the feature film Un Día de Mayo (Becoming Mayo). He has participated in workshops offered by the Sundance Institute.

He is currently developing a slate of film and television projects through Mayo Cinema LLC, including Murder in the House of Diamonds, Entre Estaciones (Between Stations), and The Holy Bomba Drum Ministry.
